Accessible Parks & Trails

AOA members regularly visit local parks and trails to review their accessibility features and, when necessary, make recommendations for improvements to the relevant authority.

Lighthouse trail

Located in Qualicum Bay.

Enjoy the over 2.5 km (each way) of wheelchair accessible trail that gives complete access to the wonderful forest views.  It also boasts a tapping rail to assist persons with low vision navigate the trail.

Located in Parksville.

This 1.9 km (round-trip) walkway offers an extremely accessible seaside stroll on a wide, flat path with a blend of paving and wooden boardwalk.  It runs from the Community Park and is easily used by walkers of all abilities, including those with wheelchairs.

Located 13 km southwest of Parksville on Errington Road off Highway 4 towards Port Alberni.  The upper falls are accessible as they can be viewed from the bridge that crosses the Englishman River.  Washrooms in the day use area are accessible.

Also known as MacMillan Provincial  Park, it is located on Highway 4 just past Cameron Lake. The park has accessible wooden boardwalks and hard packed gravel trails.

Accessed off NW Bay Rd. and situated on the Nanoose Peninsula, this park offers accessible trails and accessible washroom facilities. 

Just 3 km south of Parksville off Highway 19A, this park offers accessible trails following the seashore and spectacular sandy beach.  During the summer season a mobi-mat is installed to make the beach fully accessible during low tide.

This 3-metre wide, level and accessible gravel path serves as an exercise route for everyone.  It runs 7 kilometres from Springwood Park in Parksville to the Station Road trailhead in Coombs.
